Enchanted Island is an island in the Tropical Seas, home to King Kahuka and his tribe of Indigo Islanders.

History[]

Pirates[]

Enchanted Island was home to the Indigo Islanders, a tribe of natives led by King Kahuka and Queen Amaritza.[2][3] Kahuka's brother, Atukam, was banished from the tribe and forced to live in exile in a temple.[4]

For many years, Enchanted Island was a secluded location, although rumors circulated around the local bands of pirates that there was a native tribe with bountiful golden treasures. In 1994, Enchanted Island was discovered by Captain Ironhook. He led his crew of pirates in an effort to plunder the treasures of King Kahuka, leading to many skirmishes between the pirates and the Indigo Islanders.[5][6] Captain Roger Redbeard also arrived on Enchanted Island in search of the Indigo Islanders' treasure,[2][7] leading to infighting between Redbeard and Ironhook as they competed for the treasure.[8] Pirate activity also attracted the attention of Governor Broadside, which saw the Indigo Islanders as savages that had to be converted or wiped out.[9][10]

In 1999, two races of the LEGO Racing Championship took place at the Tribal Island Trail of Enchanted Island. King Kahuka was the hosting champion of Circuit 2 and challenged fellow racers, including Greybeard and King Joseph Race, on the beaches of this island.[11]

In 2001, Enchanted Island received the honorary title of LEGO Legend and was selected for preservation.[12]

In 2009, Captain Brickbeard arrived at Enchanted Island. Recognizing that the Indigo Islanders were persecuted by the Royal Nations, he formed an alliance with King Kahuka, agreeing to protect the natives in return for letting his fellow pirates use Enchanted Island as a safe haven. King Kahuka upheld his end of the bargain, even capturing ninjas who were found sneaking through the jungle.[9]

Dino Attack[]

When the Dino Attack reached Enchanted Island in 2010, the primitive Indigo Islanders stood little chance against the powerful and ferocious Mutant Dinos, even while protected by the Tiki Golems guarding their Great Refuge.[13] Additionally, Atukam took advantage of the Dino Attack to create his own monsters, seeking revenge against the Indigo Islanders.[4] Therefore, early in the war, Dino Attack Team saw it as a major priority to rescue islanders from Enchanted Island and evacuate them to safety.[1] Zero partook in two of these rescue missions; during the first mission, he also took samples of Mutant Dino DNA for study.[14][13]

Louis "Dryptosaurus" went on a lone mission to Enchanted Island, only to be stranded. He traveled to the command post and sent out a distress signal,[15] which was answered by a squad consisting of Databoard, Turahk-Kal, Voltage, Venom, Hyrode, Snake of Spades, Kai, Joey, and Cobra. After rescuing Louis, they investigated the Temple of Atukam before proceeding onward to Astor City.[4]

Several months later, Colonel led a squad consisting of Anubis, Belle, Dallas, Elfman, and Fate on a mission to Enchanted Island in order to stop Atukam. Although the mission had a rocky start that initially left Anubis, Belle, and Elfman stranded in the jungle, it was ultimately successful.[16][17]

Vex,[13] Nick Lightning,[18] Hunter Ultima,[19][10] and Blazer are also among the Dino Attack agents who went on missions to Enchanted Island.[20]

Major Locations[]

King Kahuka's Throne is where King Kahuka leads the Indigo Islanders and guards his treasures.[21] It is hidden in a subterranean cavern near the beach, and the Tribal Island Trail racetrack passes by the throne.[11]

Kahuka's Strait is a narrow waterway where major battles took place between the pirates and the Royal Navy.[9] During the Dino Attack, it was used as a checkpoint by Dino Attack Team.[16]

The Great Refuge is a village overlooked by Tiki Golems. It is regarded as a sacred place by the Indigo Islanders, who believed that no Mutant Dinos were capable of reaching the village.[13] However, as the war progressed and grew increasingly dire, the Tiki Golems were destroyed and Blazer was sent in to rescue the villagers.[20]

The Temple of Atukam is an ancient temple located on the coast, which was occupied by Atukam during his exile. The temple's history is unknown, although there were destroyed Tiki Golems and the decayed remains of an enormous crab in one of its chambers, and Atukam possessed stasis tubes of unknown origins. During the Dino Attack, the temple became infested with Mutant Dinos that used it as their nesting ground.[15] Atukam used these Mutant Dinos to create his own Sons of Atukam that guarded the temple and attacked the Indigo Islanders.[4] The temple was finally cleared out by the combined forces of Dino Attack Team and the Indigo Islanders.[17]

During the Dino Attack, a command post was established near Enchanted Island's volcano, with a radar for transmitting distress calls to Dino Attack Team.[15]

Trivia[]

  • In Pirates RPG, Enchanted Island was erroneously named "Arm Island".[22] This name was based upon a fanmade map by PeabodySam that placed the island geographically near Adventurers' Island in such a way that it resembled the arm of a T-Rex. This map, along with the name, is no longer considered canon.
  • Enchanted Island's role in Dino Attack RPG is largely retroactive, following the declaration that BIONICLE content was no longer considered canonical. Enchanted Island was selected to replace the appearances of the island Mata Nui in the RPG's Legends continuity due to their shared Polynesian influences.[23][24] While it did not actually appear in the original RPG, it has been referenced numerous times by the Expanded Universe,[1][25] with Time and Place marking the first time Enchanted Island has actually appeared.[16] Enchanted Island was then extensively featured in the Director's Cut in order to reconcile the early BIONICLE content with later canon.[26][27]
  • In the United Kingdom, where many LEGO Pirates sets and characters have different names, Enchanted Island is known as Indigo Island.[2][6] While Dino Attack RPG uses the island's USA name, the islanders' tribe is referred to by their UK name in the Director's Cut.[26][27]
